With apologies for cross-posting
Dear Colleagues
A reminder that tickets are now on sale for our next (and last!) public event on ‘Media Ethics and Emotional Wellbeing’. The programme for the day is copied in below for information. Tickets are available via the Freud Museum website and will be sold on a first come, first served basis. Early booking is strongly recommended. Registration Costs: £60 Full Price; £45 Students and concessions; (£5 discount for members of the Freud Museum and subscribers to MIWNET) http://www.freud.org.uk/events/74910/media-ethics-and-emotional-wellbeing/
Question for the day:
Given the fact that the media are now so closely entwined with everyday life, what are the emotional and ethical responsibilities involved in terms of media production and its consumption? What does a psychoanalytic perspective on ideas about responsibility and emotional experience have to add to such a debate? The symposium will consist of three round table panels:
* Press Matters: ‘Perspectives from the Press and its Subjects’
Chair: Brett Kahr
Director, Dart Center, Europe: Gavin Rees
Journalist: Susanna Rustin
Psychoanalyst: Sally Weintrobe
* TV Matters: Perspectives from Broadcasters and Their Subjects
Chair: Andrea Esser
Documentary Film Maker: Agnieszka Piotrowska
TV Creatives: Dan Chambers, Richard McKerrow
Academic: John Ellis
Psychotherapist: Laverne Antrobus
* Regulation Matters: Reflections on the ethical and moral responsibilities of the press and broadcasters in relation to the emotional wellbeing of the individuals, social groups and the nation
Chair: Lisa Appignanesi
Broadcaster/Journalist: David Aaronovitch
Campaign Advisor, Hacked Off!: Evan Harris
Chair of Content Board, OFCOM: Tim Gardam
Psychoanalyst: Valerie Sinason (tbc)
This will be the last MiW event of our current funding period, so we very much hope to see you there if you are able to join us.
With very best wishes
