Hi Jason & Cath,
We reported the problem of lost personalisation in ScienceDirect and Scopus to Elsevier on 4 September. We think the problems started happening after the upgrade to SciVerse on the weekend of 25/26 August. There is a web page on the SciVerse site which advises that users of personalisation features in ScienceDirect and Scopus should have received an email containing a personalised link for them to click on. Supposedly if they log in to the database in question via this link they should be able to retain their personalised features within ScienceDirect or Scopus. The web page with this information is here:
http://www.info.sciverse.com/news-events/releases/sciencedirect/2012/07/28/institutional-login-faq
Unfortunately, none of our ScienceDirect users with personalised accounts who we have spoken to received the email. We have heard from one Scopus user who did receive the email but when she clicked on the link her personalised account wasn't migrated. When we queried this with the Elsevier helpdesk on 7 September we were advised that they had been having some Shibboleth issues and would be sending out fresh emails to our users with migration links when the problems are resolved.
As I hadn't received any update on this problem I sent a follow-up email last week and received a reply on 12 October advising us that:
"We're planning an emergency release to fix a couple of really bad issues next week on 18-Oct. The loss of Shibboleth personalisation on Scopus and ScienceDirect is included. This is currently in the test environment and I have heard good news from the engineers so far... but until this is released, we really have no way of confirming it."
So this problem might be fixed tomorrow, although I've not seen any announcements from Elsevier about an update being release tomorrow.
I hope this helps,
James.

Hi Jason
We've noticed it here too and I was beginning to feel it was something we'd not set up properly here as I couldn't find any discussion about it anywhere.
So thanks for mentioning it on the list.
Regards,
Cath

Subject: [lis-e-resources] Shibboleth SAML2 and Personalisation featrures in SCOPUS
Hi,
Has anyone else come across this issue (or have I missed a thread somewhere)?
Personalisation features on the Elsevier Hub suite of products (SCOPUS/ScienceDirect) no longer work via SAML2
We have users who have saved searches, created alerts, etc. via account areas created by logging on via Shibboleth (our usual recommendation), and then activating personalisation. They are now unable to access their personal accounts and change settings or set up new alerts.
The responses I have been getting from Elsevier have not inspired much confidence. They acknowledge there is a problem, cannot give a timescale for when it will be fixed, and say they have no workaround. Their suggestion is that such users and new users (who wish to activate personalisation features) contact their helpdesk for a "remote login".
Needless to say, there is no information to this effect in the interface itself, and no direct email to the Elsevier helpdesk, so in the light of our existing users, new cohorts of PhDs and post docs, not to mention the REF exercise, I am wondering how to support folks that need to access personalisation features.
Regards,
Jason
