We have a challenging, varied senior development role in a small and fast-moving GIS / data consultancy, offering early responsibility and accountability.
The organisation:
- An independent GIS specialist, established 2002, with a major blue-chip client project commencing shortly
- A bright and stimulating team, working closely with GIS specialists and client-facing colleagues
- Current offices in central Bath (12 mins walk Bath Spa station), close to shops, bars etc. Likely relocation to central Bristol in next few months
- Able to offer flexible working arrangements, including some remote working, as required. Contract or permanent considered.
The work:
- Working within a mainly Python-based infrastructure, also using Django, incorporating GIS modelling environments, databases and web delivery
- A senior role designing and developing rich client-side web applications using GWT
- Ability to influence procedures and outcomes directly in a small and accountable team.
Requirements:
- At least 3 years’ professional experience in a commercial development environment
- Degree level qualification in a relevant subject
- Solid experience in Java is essential, ideally also GWT and exposure to Django
- Strong, proven understanding of userface design and accessibility
- Sound knowledge of interplay between web standards (CSS, html etc)
- Undying passion for Linux
- Confidence sharing ideas with other programmers and technical designers, and talking to non-techies at an appropriate level, understanding requirements and communicating clearly with them
- Ability to communicate clearly and appropriately to external contacts as required.
