Theme: Tracing the Effects of 20th century European Revolution and War in Language and Literature
Alexandra Hills (UCL): Masculinity, Violence, and Abjection in Curzio Malaparte's La Pelle and Gerhard Fritsch's Fasching.
This paper will explore the effects of Austria's and Italy's military defeats during the Second World on gender, space, and the perception of the body.
Kenneth Cheng (UCL): Revolutionary writing in 1918: Capturing the politics of the avant garde.
This paper uses Barthes' concept of 'revolutionary writing' to think through the political moment of the Avant Garde in Paris and Berlin, 1918
