In case anyone is in New York City, I thought I would let you know about an upcoming walk:
Dates: September 22nd-September 30th
Times: Available by appointment (e-mail bureauofselfrecognition(at)gmail(dot)com to schedule an appointment)
Location: Astoria, Queens
Length: 2 hours
Cost: Free
As part of his personalized exercises for the Bureau of Self Recognition, Blake Morris has executed 30 walks and documented them by depositing them in his memory palace. Now he invites you to walk with him through that palace: a real walk that tours imagined sites.
The memory palace concept is based on an ancient Greek memory technique referred to as the method of loci. This technique uses the strength of human spatial memory to record and retrieve memories. The way one remembers is through visualizing a walk in space, and depositing symbolic renderings of memories in different imagined locations. It is not simply a recording of memory, it is an embodiment.
Interested walkers can schedule an appointment through the Bureau of Self-Recognition. Each walker will also receive guided exercises about how to build his or her own memory palace.
