I think Harry Potter was an extreme example of this sort of translation. Would not UK printings of e.g. Twain at least modify spellings?
No on has mentioned Hard-Hittin' New Britain (Connecticut) which is part of a small region where full glottaling in the pre-/n/ context -- just as Greg described -- is prevalent. It's hardly likely to be a (Old) Britishism there, some have said Polish influence, but...
