Thanks for the reply.
For the strace I had ran it from the makemap directory with ./makemap
running it from my home directory with just makemap gives the same
error (and the full path, not just ./)
I don't appear to have ADAM_IFL set.
p.s Even if the nfs directory is mounted read write, I don't have permission
to write to the starlink directory.
