I used to rsync starjava and site_perl from JAC. Is this still possible or
do I need to go back to building the individual components?

I don't think you need to clean anything. You just use the force option that
you used when installing perl-Tk.

mkdir $STARLINK_DIR/starjava
rsync -avz --delete --exclude=local --exclude=lost+found
starlink.jach.hawaii.edu::starlink.x86_64/starjava/
$STARLINK_DIR/starjava/
mkdir $STARLINK_DIR/Perl/lib/perl5/site_perl
rsync -avz --delete --exclude=local --exclude=lost+found
starlink.jach.hawaii.edu::starlink.x86_64/Perl/lib/perl5/site_perl/
$STARLINK_DIR/Perl/lib/perl5/site_perl/

this done in the build version?
starjava is a separate build system but the rsync should work.
