This was more a case of making sure this information and awareness was
disseminated as soon as possible given the serious nature of the incident,
rather than proposing that curators do utility searches.
Having said that we should, as a matter of course, be checking for such
constraints for any research/academic etc archaeology works undertaken
whose participants may not realise or undertake the same search criteria as
commercial units would.
Apologies but I don't have a copy of the incident report to pass on, but
I'll see if I can lay my hands on one for you.

A wee bit puzzled by this, as a contractor we're used to consulting on all
utilities and undertaking searches etc ... I just don't understand the
curatorial significance. With my curator hat on I would expect any
consultant/contractor that could not deliver an intrusive evaluation to a
sample % because of utility constraints (or any constraints) to explain
this scenario and ask for a variation. Is your suggestion that curators
should do utility searches ... ?
I would have thought this would be a SGIFA or FAME issue rather than ALGAO.
Also our QSHE Officer would appreciate sight of the report if you have it
so that we can check that our systems would not have generated such a
conflict.
