Dear wise list
I am putting together some general points on back pain/injuries to discuss at a support meeting for First Aiders and I have happened across something that has stumped me.
In the current manual it states that acute back pain/spine injuries in those under 20 and over 55 require investigation and treatment but I cannot find any rationale for this - so if you are 21 - 54 you're okay!? In the case of acute back pain it even recommends dialling 999 but I would only see this as relevant if strong pain relief were required prior to transportation.
Perhaps it's getting late in the afternoon and I can't see the wood for the trees but I know some-one will pick this up in the meeting and I haven't got a ready answer.
Thanks
julia
