Now that most of us have probably deployed to the British Library BLDSS,
I was wondering how different institutions are coping with renewals on
the new system.
We are giving the readers a return date that is seven days before it is
due back at the British Library. By the time we get the `DUE AUTO RENEW
PEND' report from BL, most of the items have been returned to us. We
have a few readers that ask for a renewal before or on the date the item
is due to be returned to us. This is causing us problems for two reasons:
*Our system automatically generates a overdue notice which is sent to
the reader, which causes some confusion. We currently aren't altering
the return date when a reader requests a renewal. We do try to explain
that the British Library will automatically renew the item, but it will
be several days before this is confirmed.
*Our readers have to pay for renewals. We have had at least one instance
where a reader as asked for a renewal and paid the charge before the
item is due to be returned to the BL. We have then had a `DUE WAIT'
report on the intray, seven days before the item is due back at BL.
Is anyone having any similar experiences?
Regards,
Elaine Wilson
