The Department of Modern Languages at the University of Southampton invites proposals to support high quality applications to the 2012-2013 British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme. Details of the conditions and eligibility for the scheme are available at http://www.britac.ac.uk/funding/guide/pdfells.cfm.
Postdoctoral Fellows will join a large interdisciplinary department with strength in several areas of language and culture. The Department was rated one of the top two submissions by the European Studies panel in the UK’s most recent Research Assessment Exercise (2008), and has a strong record of hosting major projects.
We would welcome proposals for research in any areas of modern and contemporary language and culture, particularly in French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and English. Proposals may relate to our strengths in transnational studies, applied language research and global Englishes, or to other areas of work in which we have particular expertise. Details of our research profile may be viewed at http://www.southampton.ac.uk/ml/research/index.page.
Application is via a two-stage selection process. The deadline for outline applications is 10 October 2012. Application forms are currently available on the e-GAP system. Applicants wishing to be supported by us should contact the Director of Research in Modern Languages Professor Michael Kelly ([log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>) by Friday 21 September.
