Call for Papers
Mobility
Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association National Conference Washington, D.C.
March 27-30, 2013
The Communication and Digital Culture Area of the Popular Culture Association is soliciting proposals for panels and individual papers that explore questions of mobility in a network society.
Recent data suggest that more than 50% of Americans now own a “smart phone,” and smart phones account for 2/3 of all new phone sales. What are the implications for American popular culture now that we are rapidly approaching market saturation? How does ready access to networked, digital resources continue to transform cultural practices? What are the implications for other developed and developing nations—and the digital diasporas connected through these devices?
Possible topics include:
Citizen Journalism
Mobile Identities
Casual/Just in Time Gaming
The “Network Society” Revisited
Mobile Learning
Media Demassification
Mobile Youth
New Economies of Mobility
Privacy & “Little Brother”
Convergence
