Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application

Senior Lecturer in Statistics at the Department of Statistics.

The Department of Statistics has a long tradition in research on multivariate and factor analysis. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is a form of multivariate analysis that was developed by K. G. Jöreskog (professor emeritus in the department) in the early 1970s. The research has since then been carried out under his surveillance. The Department of Statistics now has one senior researcher in this research area. The Vice-Chancellor and the Faculty of Social Science at Uppsala University have decided to support a position as a senior lecturer with 60 percentage research in the Structural Equation Modeling area during three years.
Duties: The position includes teaching, examination, research and administration. Teaching duties include course coordination, course administration and supervision. Duties also include actively pursuing external research funding, following developments in the subject field as well as following relevant development in society that is of relevance for the research and education at the university. The latter also includes participation in the internationalisation process of education at the basic and the advanced levels. Moreover, consultancy duties, mainly towards the social sciences, may also be required.
The holder of the appointment can count on a research grant equivalent to 60 percent of a full time during the first three years of employment. This is financed by strategic funds at the Uppsala University. This research is expected to contribute to the Department’s efforts to develop research and teaching within the field of Structural Equation Modeling.
Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as senior lecturer, the applicant must hold a Ph.D. or possess equivalent scholarly competence. Further on, the applicant must have demonstrated teaching expertise and have completed teacher training of relevance to operations at the University, comprising ten weeks, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge. If special circumstances apply, this training for teachers in higher education may be completed during the first year of employment. A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must have the personal characteristics required to perform the duties of the post well.

The ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement.

Assessment: Equal importance will be given to teaching and research skills in the assessment of applicants. Particular importance will be given to research within Structural Equation Modeling.
In assessing research expertise research quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education at the postgraduate level, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, as well as the demonstrated capacity to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.
Pedagogic proficiency will be assessed as carefully as scientific proficiency. Pedagogical skills should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed.
In assessing teaching expertise teaching quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. The ability to interact concerning issues of teaching and learning in higher education with actors inside and outside the University is also included in teaching expertise.
When the University appoints new teachers those applicants must be selected who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of their competence and expertise, are judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant duties and to help advance operations.

Assessment, other skills: Administrative and management skills are important for this position and will be afforded weight.

Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, through the capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and task-related manner as well as through the ability to assign and observe time frames. Expertise includes overall operational planning and the capacity to manage resources in a way that reflects operational priorities as well as the ability to work in a structured manner based on an awareness of goals and quality.
Management expertise is demonstrated through the capacity to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate others, providing them with what is needed for the efficient achievement of common goals. The abilities to coordinate the group and help create a sense of involvement, participation, and enjoyment in work and to deal with conflicts constitute further examples of demonstrated expertise.
Personal circumstances that may be of relevance in merit evaluation, for example parental leave, should be mentioned in the list of qualifications (CV).
The university strives to achieve an even gender balance. Therefore, women/men are particularly invited to apply for this position.

Application: Complete application and documents referred to should be submitted in three copies in paper form of the following:
• A list of scholarly and educational qualifications (Curriculum Vitae) verified with authenticated copies of certificates and other documents referred to therein. Documentation of the teaching experience should include certificates and qualitative opinions by the director of studies e.g.
• A brief summary of scholarly and pedagogical qualifications (maximum 5 pages each) and administrative activities. By the summary it should be evident which research activities, results and which other activities the applicant considers to be most relevant in the evaluation of his or her application. The summary and the documentation should show the applicant’s pedagogical skills in different aspects, such as teacher training, scope, breadth and level of teaching experience, course responsibility, course development, supervision experience, production of teaching materials etc.
• A list of scholarly and teaching-related works. The applicant should state which ten publications are to receive primary consideration.
