Dear UTSG List Members,
Apologies for any cross-posting.
With 6 weeks to go, we are delighted to confirm that Mr Philip Rutnam, Permanent Secretary for the Department for Transport, will be joining us on 20th September 2012 to celebrate 100 years of transport excellence in the North East. This date marks 40 years since the formation of the Transport Operations Research Group (TORG) at Newcastle University and 60 years since the formation of the North Eastern Branch of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT). We would like to invite you to join us for this celebratory event as well.
As part of our joint celebrations we will be hosting a free afternoon seminar (1230-1630) in the Devonshire Building at Newcastle University. The Seminar will review the achievements of TORG and the CIHT and look into the challenges transport may face in the future. This afternoon event will include speakers, an interactive exhibition and demonstrations.
To begin the evening celebrations, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle upon Tyne, Councillor Jackie Slesenger will host a drinks reception at Newcastle Civic Centre. This will be followed by a dinner with our guest speaker, Steven Norris, President of ITS (UK). The welcome reception will start at 6.30pm with dinner from 7pm, evening dress code is lounge suits.
For members of the CIHT and TORG, dinner is at a subsidised cost of £15 per person. For any non-members, the cost is £30 per person including VAT.
