The Sydney-West Translational Cancer Research Centre (SW-TCRC) is a new entity, established in 2011 with grant funding from the Cancer Institute NSW (CINSW). It is multi-site consortium formed by Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) of the Sydney West Cancer Network (SWCN). The SW-TCRC also includes cancer research groups of the Westmead Millennium Institute for Medical Research (WMI), and other affiliated clinical and research groups involved in cancer care and research in western Sydney.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to support and develop research into the linkage of clinical data to bio-specimen collection at the Sydney West Translational Cancer Research Centre (SW-TCRC). You role will be to work with the SW-TCRC Bio-banking sub-committee and other members of the CINSW Bio-banking network to test the efficiency and feasibility of linking clinical data collected by the NSW Cancer Registries with ‘banked’ bio-specimens. You will assist in application for Human Research Ethics Committee and Research Governance approval, will undertake clinical data item mapping for diverse tumour types, assist in troubleshooting database and clinical data transfer issues, and analyse linked data. You will also liaise with database consultants to facilitate data linkage. There will also be opportunities to contribute to publications and reports.
Although principally based at Westmead Hospital, this position will involve the management of collaborative linkages with the Cancer Institute NSW, and bio-banks at the Lowy Cancer Institute, UNSW, Nepean Hospital and other Translational Cancer Research Centres across metropolitan Sydney.
To secure this role you will need to demonstrate:
• post-graduate qualifications (or equivalent) in a health science related field and /or data management; or similar relevant qualifications and experience
• a good understanding of health or similar data
• experience in biomedical research with an aptitude for both independent and collaborative research
• an ability to work independently and as member of a team.
• excellent communication and records keeping skills
• knowledge and experience of clinical databases, clinical data definitions and data linkage (desirable)
• sound knowledge and application of statistical analysis tools and techniques (desirable)
