There is another side I should mention. That of living in a marina, or
as some would say, a village. There is always someone to have a chat
with. (But in what language?)
To go to an aside; recently I took a 15 year old boy who is autistic out
on a photography lesson. What I did not take into account was that he
spoke four languages, other then English. It took me a few weeks to
understand that he was speaking to me in German, French, Italian and
Spanish. And I thought he was autistic!
After living some dozen years inland, I am completely not fluent in any
language other then the drawling vowels of inland Australia that passes
for Australian English. Yet this boy spoke to me in German, Spanish,
Italian, French and inland Australian. It took me a few weeks to work
this out. So imagine trying to teach a kid who is autistic and is far
more fluent in European languages then you are, how to take a photo.
