>if children want to know what a bookshop is, we tell them it's where you
go if you want to see an e-book printed out on dead trees<
i wouldn't normally want to involve myself with this but as Sondheim's
remark has been given various kinds of nod it is perhaps worth pointing out
that a) using hypothetical children to support an argument is a mark of
intellectual bullies throughout history and b) that if the children
understood 'printing out' it is likely that would be aware of paper and ink
already c) while on the subject of infantile minds it is unlikely that
anyone with an IQ above that of an eight year old does not really know that
the aims of the e-book industry are to re-monetise much of our common
culture heritage as intellectual property of multi-nationals and that d)
it's a feeble joke anyway.
