pleasant to read the review, Andrew, with its inviting quotations. I have emailed it to John Barnes.
Cover looks good.
As for small publishers, aren't some of them heroic?
I recently helped launch a book from Hunter Publishers Melbourne, in their series
Hunter Contemporary Australian Poets.
Meeting John Hunter was to meet a dedicated man, who publishes his enthusiasms and knows that breaking even will be success.
His regular job is with bigger publishers.
Excellent design etc.
He began with Peter Bakowski,
then Justin Clemens,
and now Brendan Ryan.
Brendan's book is packed with observation, complex memories, and a strong sense of Victoria's Western District, its history and its recent times.
It was lovely to launch a book so easily quoted from and to sense how each quotation went home to the audience's hearts.
Mind you, those who attend a launch are hoping to warm to their friend's writing.
Chris Wallace-Crabbe and Paul Kane were in attendance.
No rictus at this reading, Patrick.
Also to be in that rare place nowadays, a large well-stocked traditional bookshop -
- Hill of Content Bookshop, Bourke Street, Melbourne.
A general bookshop. The place for poetry is still Kris Hemensley's Collected Works Bookshop in Swanston Street.
