Hi All

I have had a request from an employee, clutching a 20 page sheaf of paper
from a claims site, asking for a move from working in her current area, as
the noise will be affecting her unborn child (deafness and premature
delivery)- 22 weeks pregnant present, working in 84Dbl area. Does anyone
know what the attenuation of being invittro is?
I have reassured her but she is obviously skeptical. This is the area we
move others to as it is the least noisey and least strenuous jobwise,
cutting lettuce heads for salad with the opportunity to sit as/when
required.

many thanks

Cath Farrimond

Hi Cath,

I attended an audiometry course yesterday and I only realised then that the
booth had to be <35db. I think the app would be good for checking that so
thanks for letting me know. For any other testing I think I would buy a
sound meter.

Yes I thought it would be pretty useless as a formal measurement tool - I
was just thinking of it's potential to give a rough idea of ambient noise
levels when doing audiometry without a booth.

Could be useful as a gadget to initiate discussion with the workforce re
noise hazard. However, but that is about it as it's accuracy is
questionable, and the app cannot be calibrated. I wouldn't rely on an ipod
app other than a very, very basic initial indication of whether there could
possibly be a problem so it is very much a subjective.
