Hello Brian. Nicer still to recieve a poem you wrote! Brilliant too to have
Such a fine example of how challenges forge clarity if there is honesty in the mix too. Thank you again.
Best wishes Philippa

Hello Philippa,
Thank you for your kind response.
I wrote this poem after a particularly hard time in getting myself heard. Strangely, as I get older, I find people talk-over me!Rather than portray that experience, I drew on it and related 'listening' to my own practice in human relations and mentoring, (to my own ability to listen).
This poem is one of a series of my verses in a book I am writing entitled 'Knowing Through Poetic Reflection'.
I am in the process of trying to get a publisher interested. There been a lot of interest, but so far reluctance to take the risk!
Even though this is a book about poetry as a way of communicating, reflecting and researching, and not just a collection of verse, it is a 'risk' for publishers I've been told.
Here is another verse written about my health issues with cancer and arthritis. I was impressed with a story (I think of Charles Handy, but I've not traced it) about South Sea Islanders reactions to a storm sweeping away their homes and livelihoods. They fled to caves in the hills to sit out the typhoon, and then went down to the beach at the next high tide to collect materials to rebuild their lives:
Benestrophe
The typhoon was roaring,
Battering, destroying,
Homes and possessions
Sucked out to sea
But there were we
Safely sheltering
From the storm’s shock
Underneath the ‘Rock’.
The storm subsided
The water receded,
So on the tide incoming
There were we welcoming
Raw materials enough
Of hope, faith, and love
To rebuild our habitation
On the gifts of devastation.
If you like one or the other, please feel free to quote them.
Kind regards,
Brian
