FROM THE CLASSROOM TO THE CLINIC: HUMANITIES AND EDUCATION IN BIOETHICS (This meeting takes place in Cumberland lodge, Windsor Great Park 8th October 2012)
The meeting is in association with ISBN, The IME and the RSM Open Section
THE DEADLINE IS APPROACHING for abstract submissions for oral presentations and posters for the upcoming colloquium "From the Classroom to the Clinic: Humanities and Education in Bioethics", to be held at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park, on the 8th of October, 2012.
This colloquium will explore the contribution of the humanities and the social sciences to the education of medical ethics and bioethics to health professionals, biomedical researchers, and the public. The core premise of this event is that health is an interdisciplinary phenomenon, and that contemporary issues related to healthcare, health policy and medical ethics are best addressed with an interdisciplinary approach.
The colloquium will be structured around four key themes:
1. Methods of inquiry into bioethics education: an exploration of the different styles of bioethics, different approaches to the study of bioethical phenomena, and the role of the humanities, history and the social sciences in the context of bioethics education.
2. Ethics, education and the medical researcher: an exploration of how biomedical researchers recognize and engage with ethical issues, and possible educational interventions for biomedical scientists.
3. Curricular and structural processes in the ethics education of clinicians: this theme will address the design of curricula and implementation of ethics education by institutions, and explore the formal and informal ways in which clinicians access and implement ethics education.
4. Ethics and public education: An exploration of the ways in which bioethics influences public policy, journalism, and the public media.
**We are particularly keen to recieve more abstracts for streams 2 and 4**
This event will bring together delegates from a range of academic and disciplinary backgrounds to foster an interdisciplinary sensibility towards healthcare and bioethics. We will welcome up to 50 delegates from philosophy, law, the social sciences, the humanities, all clinical disciplines and healthcare sciences. Because of limited numbers, we will give priority to delegates submitting an abstract.
If you wish to present a conference paper or poster at this event, please submit an abstract (max 2000 characters) online by 10 August. Oral presentations are strictly limited to 15 minutes. Poster size is A1.
Abstracts can be submitted via: www.cumberlandlodge.ac.uk/programme/Forthcoming+Events/Bioethics
Successful applicants will be notified by 17 August and will be required to confirm their attendance by registering via the Cumberland Lodge website within two weeks.
The colloquium registration fee is £45 inclusive of public lecture, refreshments, lunch and dinner. For any enquires please contact [log in to unmask]
