FAO all guidance practitioners in Further Education (FE) Colleges in Scotland

The recent Scottish Government paper: A Qualifications and Continuous Professional Development Framework for the Careers Development Workforce in Scotland highlights the various qualifications open to guidance practitioners throughout Scotland: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Publications/2012/07/5300 . With this report in mind I thought that I would inform you about the Postgraduate Adult Guidance programme which is a unique course only offered by the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow.

This successful programme was developed and has been delivered at the University of Strathclyde since the early 1990's. This programme has been of particular interest to guidance practitioners in Further and Higher Education colleges in Scotland. However, we also have a number of students atttending from FE/HE colleges in England, Wales and Ireland as well as overseas students.

The Certificate course is basically a distance learning course. It comprises of three core modules and an option module. Each module is designed to be studied over a period of about 10 weeks, with time added for holidays. You will receive a study guide along with other relevant information to the module prior to the start of each module. Each study guide gives a suggested week-by-week topic study sequence. The three core modules have workshops. The first and second modules have a one day only workshop and the counselling module has a two day workshop. This is the only time that you need attend the University in Glasgow. The rest of the time is basically self study but you can get help from your tutors via e-mail or telephone. For the final module which is an option module you can choose from an Independent Study, from another Faculty pathway or it may be possible to have an APFL claim from previous study.

For further information you can access our website http://www.strath.ac.uk/humanities/courses/education/courses/mscpgdippgcertadultguidance/

Each module will be cost £235. If you wish to apply please do this on-line via our website. Should you have problems when doing this please call our Registry Admissions Office on 0141 548 3195 and they will be able to help you. The next course starts at the end of September 2012 with a one day Induction and First Module workshop being held on Thursday 4th October 2012. This workshop will be held in the John Anderson Campus in the City Centre.

If you require further information please contact me direct either by email or telephone: 01592 560843.

Best wishes

Joy Boyle
