Thank you to everyone who has responded to my email. We usually get asked for only a small area of a larger map, for example, showing an area of interest such as a particular property or street. Most of the time, our researchers are not looking for professional quality copies.
The general feeling towards hand held scanners is not good due to physical contact with items, with many favouring options such as:
- Digitising the maps either ourselves or using an external company- Due to the cost involved we do not consider this to be an option. Also, digitising OS maps has already been done, for example Peoples Collection Wales have digitised Welsh OS maps and they are available online free of charge.
- Using an anti-glare setting on our camera
- Using a camera stand and diffusing the light
So it looks like it may be a case of experimenting with our camera!
Thanks again
Sarah
