Apologies, for "Anglo-Saxon" I really meant anthropologists based in UK,
US, Canada and Ireland, of course! And I really meant based, including
natives of these countries but not only, I am Italian myself so not a
"native" of Anglo-Saxon countries. I am sure there might be all kinds of
implications the word "Anglo-saxon" raises in relation to Ireland (and
perhaps even Canada), and I didn't really think of that, so apologies if I
missed any specific identity issue there, Ireland is not my specialty, and
identity neither.
I was defining "Anglo-Saxon" vs let's say some continental European
traditions where anthropology often overlaps in more substantial ways with
literary studies/philosophy, so there might not be a requirement for
long-term ethnographic fieldwork as part of doctoral training.
All the best to native Irish anthropologists applying for the job! (and
Italian anthropologists as well, why not? and everybody else of course)
