There are eight new projects in the JISC Managing Research Data Programme http://www.jisc.ac.uk/whatwedo/programmes/di_researchmanagement/managingresearchdata.aspx, part of JISC's Digital Infrastructure Portfolio.
The new projects are divided into two strands:
1) One set of projects will be developing RESEARCH DATA MANAGEMENT TRAINING MATERIALS in a variety of areas:
- for librarians and for post-graduate students in library and information science;
- and for post-graduate students in computer science; physics and astronomy; and digital music research.
Further information about these projects and the support project, as well as links to the project webpages and blogs is available at: http://researchdata.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2012/08/23/research-data-management-training-five-new-jiscmrd-projects/
2) The second set of projects are looking at issues around RESEARCH DATA PUBLICATION and linking data to publications.
Two projets will be examining issues such as: How best to exchange metadata between journals, data centres and institutional archives? What are the most efficacious submission and deposit procedures? What levels of assurance are required for data repositories? And what processes of data peer review are appropriate?
The third project in this strand will conduct a feasibility study for a sustainable service to collate and summarise journal policies regarding research data.
Further information about these projects is available at: http://researchdata.jiscinvolve.org/wp/2012/08/14/innovative-research-data-publication-three-new-jiscmrd-projects/
I think the work in both strands will be extremely significant and I hope it will be of wide interest.
Best wishes,
Simon.
