ASSISTANT ARCHIVIST (SAINSBURY ARCHIVE) (Ref: IRSMOL29-1)
£23,791 p.a.
Up to 6 months maternity cover contract with a possibility of extension
We are offering an opportunity to use your cataloguing skills to open up digital access to an important retail archive, as well as working on collection management and delivering user services in a public museum environment.
The Sainsbury Archive is a unique, varied and highly visual collection which documents the history of the popular supermarket chain since its foundation in Drury Lane in 1869.
We are looking for a qualified archivist with some cataloguing experience to play a key role in the development of the archive’s CALM catalogue and for online delivery during 2013. You will work with the Archivist on the catalogue structure and editing existing descriptions, new arrangement and cataloguing, creation of authority records, and exporting data from MS Excel.
You will also research and respond to enquiries, assist researchers and visitors to the Sainsbury Study Centre, and support the Archivist with the acquisition and preservation of the collection.
You will have thorough knowledge of cataloguing archives using specialist database systems, ideally CALM. Well-organised and used to managing deadlines, you will also have experience of delivering research and enquiry services and experience of the development, care and interpretation of historical collections.
