The fact that the edition does not avail itself of all the opportunites
offered by the digital format does not alter the basic fact that it is
produced and published digitally. That, to my limited mind, is all that
is required for an edition to be described as 'digital'.
Whether the form chosen by Mastronarde is the ideal form for digital
editions is of course another matter. I think monographs should include
comprehensive indices, but that doesn't mean a scholarly work published
without an index is undeserving of the label 'monograph'.
