thanks for your comment and suggestions.
However, I think the job advertised was indeed very relevant as ethnography
is a central part of it, and most anthropologists (at least in the
Anglo-saxon world) are expert ethnographers. While ethnography is also
carried out (in different ways) in other disciplines, it still remains a
distinctive part of anthropology. The current climate also means that many
people trained in anthropological ethnography are now looking to other
disciplines for employment, so many people - I think - would value this and
other similar job ads.
I also see the comparison between ethnography in research for technologies
in independent living like the one carried out by TRIL (the centre at which
the job ad you mention is based) and human terrain in Afghanistan is rather
far fetched, and somewhat tends to overlook the important contributions
anthropologists are making to other disciplines and academic and
non-academic fields, including valuable practical applications and applied
forms of research.
