28 Hours per week, fixed term for 10 weeks, 3rd September - 16th November 2012.
We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant for two and a half months to work with Dr Paul Watt on a British Academy funded project: 'Residential Mobility, Housing and Belonging in the London Suburbs'. The project will examine the changing social nature of British suburbia via a case study of in-movers and established locals in a fringe London suburb located in Essex. It focuses on themes of mobility and belonging in relation to housing, class and ethnicity.
You will be involved in various aspects of the project including assisting Dr Watt in interviewing residents and housing professionals, questionnaire dissemination and analysis, undertaking documentary research, literature reviews and analysis of Census data. In addition, you will assume responsibility for the organisation of interview transcriptions.
Candidates should hold an undergraduate degree (First or 2-1) or equivalent in Sociology, Geography, Social Policy or a related field. Although not essential, a post-graduate qualification or equivalent in social sciences or research methods would be advantageous. Prior experience of undertaking social science research is essential, while experience of conducting interviews would be an advantage. Ideally, candidates should have an interest in one or more of the following: urban studies, housing, class and ethnicity. Well-developed communication, interpersonal and organisational skills are essential. A willingness to be flexible with hours of work is required.
Salary range: £23,780 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
