Job Description
The School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham University is seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Sports Regulation and Policy to complement the research interests and strengths of the School's multi-disciplinary ‘Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity' research group. The successful candidate will have a track record of internationally excellent publications and external funding, and a commitment to delivering excellent teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The post offers exceptional opportunities for the successful candidate to shape the development of Sport in ways that capitalise on or expand links with other major research groups and themes in the School, including sociology, social policy, criminology, health studies, social research methods, and community development. The successful candidate will also help to complement the research portfolio of the School of Applied Social Sciences.
The School of Applied Social Sciences is a large interdisciplinary unit with research and teaching strengths that encompass Sport, Sociology, Criminology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Community and Youth Work. The School is committed to building upon its strong performance in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. Undergraduate programmes are taught in Sport, Exercise and Physical Activity, Sociology, and Criminology. Postgraduate programmes include Criminology, Sociology, Social Policy, Social Work, and Community and Youth Work. A new postgraduate programme in Sport & Physical Activity is in the early planning stages and we would expect new appointments to become actively involved in its development. The School has a large pool of UK, European, and international research students. The School is committed to producing a world-class standard of applied, interdisciplinary research which engages with contemporary issues and debates in the policy and wider public spheres. Located in the historic and beautiful City of Durham, the School is an integral part of one of the UK's top ‘research-intensive' universities. Requirements
The overall task is to provide academic leadership in relation to the development of research and teaching in Sport, Regulation and Policy, to contribute to the school's BA (Hons) Sport, Exercise & Physical Activity programme by undertaking teaching and research student supervision.
