The University of Bonn’s Faculty of Arts invites applications for the position of
Junior Professor: English - Medieval Studies
Applicants should have a PhD in medieval literary and cultural studies. They
should have a distinguished ongoing record of high quality research and publi-
cation. Applicants should be also competent in historical linguistics and be
able to teach classes in Old and Middle English in order to provide students
with a sound basis for the study of medieval literature.
The successful applicant should be willing and able to fulfill his/her adminis-
trative and teaching duties as well as research in the widest possible terms.
Salary: W 1 on the German professorial scale (tenure track option, W 2)
Successful applicants are expected to have a working knowledge of German or
to acquire it within 3 years after their appointment.
The requirements for employment listed in § 36 of the Higher Education Act of
North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen)
apply.
Applicants must hold a relevant university degree and should have a demon-
strated potential for excellence in research, usually evidenced by an out-
standing doctoral thesis. The position will be offered for an initial period of
three years and is extendable after positive evaluation.
