Yes, Chris, I didn't realize this was for a book. For a book there's really
no good substitute for TeX/LaTex. Since you'd mentioned HTML I thought you
didn't need something so sophisticated (setting a book with HTML would be
an unmitigated disaster).
Other options are Texmaker and Kile (for KDE).
I assume you're using the Lytex fork of LyX?

I'm slowly resigning myself that I'll have to start paying attention to
EPUB, since that's the hot new format on the block. I'm also very reluctant
to turn my back on trusty old TeX, though.
