Hi there,
I would appreciate your opinions here, and look forward to your responses!
I have a new team member who is employed as a waitress in a restaurant. On doing a food handler medical she states she has an allergy to fish. Different fish means different levels of reaction. In the past she has experienced redness, pain and blisters on her hands as a result of handling fish. All skin allergy testing has come back normal (her words) and recently underwent blood tests and awaits these results.
She has antihistamines available but not an epi-pen (Yet). Whilst clearing plates away the other day she experienced redness and tingling on her hands. She does not currently wear gloves. As a result she is reluctant and I have advised that she should refrain from serving at the salmon trolley. The gloves are another (workplace) issue as the employer would lose LQA points (audit points).
I have been asked about the Equality Act and was a little stumped as to whether this would apply. Can anyone give any advice on this for me?
Many thanks
Rachael
