I'm curious about academic libraries (and any other, but primarily academic) presence on social media sites - which sites people are using, how academic libraries are using them, what advantages or disadvantages they may found, staff/student reactions and so on. My institution is a little behind the times on this, and I've found myself in a somewhat unofficial role as our social media champion, so I'm looking to change that! I feel we need to do more to market ourselves, and one way is to 'big up' our social media presence and expand the range of options students have for communicating with the library.
I'm thinking sites like Facebook obviously, Twitter, FourSquare, Pinterest, Instagram, Bundlr, Delicious, YouTube - how are you using these? I'm interested in both from a marketing perspective and also from a student support perspective.
I'll summarise responses for the group for anyone else who might be interested!
