Hello GULPers,
my talk went well, thanks for rehearsing me at lablunch. I am becoming more hopeful that my JPhon dream will soon be reality ;-) But it was also quite obvious that not many people are interested in intonational phonology nowdays (including myself). It used to be the main subject of LabPhon debates.
In contrast, both rhythm and sound change are hot topics :-D The rhythm debate between Jelena Krivocapic and Amalia Arvaniti was exceptionally interesting, Usha Goshwami was a great choice as moderator (I tweeted the debate and the following paper session). There will be a special issue of LabPhon journal dedicated to timing and temporal structures (edited by Martine Grice, the freshly elected vice president of the association, and Doris Mücke, her post-doc). Cole & Hualde presented an interesting poster on the interaction between Nothern cities vowel shift and prominence (the abstract available on request upon my return, i.e. after August 9th). Jonathan Harrington and Mary Stevens are editing a special issue on sound change (probably based on the papers presented at Seeon, will try to find out whether they would be interested in including posters).
Today is the last day! The conference has been very good so far (not as great as PoRT, of course!), I am looking forward to the talk by Bob Port in 30 min (will tweet it if the internet connection works).
Best wishes from Stuttgart (it is raining here, too)
Tamara
