Environmental Research & Assessment (ERA) Ltd is seeking a motivated person with excellent GIS / Remote Sensing skills to assist with our work in the polar regions and Africa. The contract involves application of GIS and Remote Sensing tools to integrate, analyse and present data to address environmental problems, and to synthesise data into map products, plans and reports that are useful and relevant to environmental planning and decision-making.
Attributes for the position are:
Technical
• Competence in using ArcGIS (v.9.x onwards), including processing and manipulation of a wide variety of spatial data, building databases, spatial analysis, 3D visualisations & map production;
• Experience in Remote Sensing techniques, such as image classification, feature extraction and image analysis using ERDAS Imagine software;
• Ability to synthesise scientific literature, write up and present results;
• Familiarity with GPS data acquisition and post-processing an advantage, as would web-based application experience.
Qualifications
• A degree in a relevant environmental or science discipline to Honours / Masters / PhD level (or equivalent) with a high level of attainment.
• Practical experience and fieldwork in remote regions an advantage.
This contract position is initially offered until 30 October 2012, with possibilities for extension through December 2012 and perhaps beyond. The successful applicant would be in a position to start as soon as practicable, preferably no later than Mon 30 July 2012.
