Applications are invited for a Lectureship in Environmental Analytics within the School of GeoSciences at the University of Edinburgh to enhance understanding in the field of human-environment interactions through the modelling of spatio-temporal data using exploratory analysis techniques. You will be at the forefront of the development of quantitative and spatial analysis methods (e.g. social simulation, geographic modelling, spatio-temporal data analysis and visualisation) in the context of understanding interaction between humans and their environment. This will likely be explored within thematic areas that present significant societal challenge, such as land or water resource management, sustainable urban environments, natural hazards and adaptations to climate change. You should therefore be able to contribute to intellectual and public debates on open data, scientific visualisation and the use of geographical information for evidence-based formulation of public policy and other forms of decision making.
You will be expected to have an international reputation in your field, a desire to communicate beyond your discipline boundaries and be open to the opportunities inherent in a large and diverse School. Contributions to teaching will be at all levels, including the School's undergraduate degree programmes and our unique suite of inter-disciplinary postgraduate programmes.
This is an open-ended post from 01 October 2012.
