The University of Bonn is looking for a
Language Teacher (Lehrkraft für besondere Aufgaben)
for the Department of English, American and Celtic Studies (full time)
This position will be available from 1 October 2012 until 30 September 2013, with the possibility of a one-year extension after this period. This position mainly involves teaching English language to advanced university students, the vast majority of whom have German as their native language.
Requirements:
- you are a native speaker of English
- a postgraduate degree (e.g. an M.A.)
- a knowledge of German at an advanced level (university standard) is essential
- previous experience of Germany is highly desirable
Duties:
- the work entails teaching English to students with a high standard of fluency
- the language courses taught focus particularly on accuracy of usage
- it would be desirable if you have a good knowledge of phonetics and some experience
in teaching introductory level courses in phonetics
- translation from German to English is an important element in many courses
- team work is important, as many courses are taught as parallel courses
- you may need to teach a course on British and Irish life and institutions (e.g. history or geography and aspects of regional culture of the above countries)
- in addition to teaching and marking duties, the successful applicant will be required to help to set, invigilate and correct exams
We are offering:
- a salary according to TVL 13
- the teaching load is 17 hours per week
- total work load is 39.833 hours per week, including exam marking during vacations
- a reduced rate public transport travel pass is available on request
