Hi there,
I've written a blog post on the Archives Hub blog that I thought might be of interest, especially to new archivist and archive students, 'The modern archivist: working with people and technology'. It's a topic that has come up on the list before - the need to embrace technology and the recognition that we are, indeed, in a people profession. I'd be interested to get any thoughts on this. http://archiveshub.ac.uk/blog/2012/07/the-modern-archivist-working-with-people-and-technology/
Other recent blog posts include an introduction to 'Big Data': http://archiveshub.ac.uk/blog/2012/05/big-data-whats-it-all-about/
I've not heard this come up in our sector much, but its certainly a big deal in the commercial sector, and it is likely to have implications for us.
"We currently have more data than we can analyse, and 90% of the digital universe is unstructured, a fact that drives the move towards the big data approach."
And the benefits of being Open: http://archiveshub.ac.uk/blog/2012/04/open-up/
"We need to be aware of the open data agenda and the threats and opportunities presented to us...."
with best wishes,
Jane.
