***** Please Circulate Widely ***** NEW GJSS Edition: Theorising Futurities *****
Hello everyone
Hope you are well and managing to enjoy some holiday time!
Graduate Journal of Social Science are pleased to announce the launch of our latest edition, entitled Theorising Futurities (Vol 9, Issue 2).
http://gjss.org/index.php?/Volume-92-July-2012-Theorizing-Futurities.html
If 'crisis' and social change continue to hold palpable meaning following the global financial fall-out of 2008, this edition is inspired by a belief in the need to critically engage with the ways in which we consequently come to theorise futurities across the social sciences. Throughout the edition, the authors negotiate with varying 'positive' and 'negative' conceptualisations of the future as they relate to a number of spaces and institutions, including the university itself. In so doing, they probe the degree to which the ability to discuss 'the future' as a site of coherent meaning may itself be bound up in questions of power, positionality, precarity and privilege. If the current landscape of 'crisis' seems to impact upon our relation to our histories, our research, to society and to one another, we hope this edition will ask how we can look at and critically examine this elusive, but nonetheless intensely present question of 'the future' in order to fundamentally reshape these very relations.
The attached GJSS newsletter also includes information on future editions that we will be publishing in 2012-2013.
We would be very grateful if you could circulate this to all interested parties.
With all best wishes,
Alexa Athelstan and Rosemary Deller

Forthcoming...
With the change of editorship we are moving from one regular edition per year to two. Currently, GJSS Editors, Alexa Athelstan and Rosemary Deller, are preparing the publication of a forthcoming March 2013 regular edition on 'Visual Methodologies' and a December 2013 regular edition on 'Critical Approaches to Age and Ageism.' A supplementary magazine edition of the GJSS will be published in October 2012, edited by Amy Burns and Clare Wiper, emerging out of the recent 'Gendered Subjects' event at Northumbria University, June 2012. This edition will bring together a diverse selection of short research 'snapshots,' to provide an overview of some of the research currently being conducted by gender studies postgraduates in the North (East) of England.
'Sexuality in Focus' edited by Arpita Das, Annelies Kleinherenbrink and Ebtihal Mahadeen will be our December 2012 special edition, which was inspired by NOISE Summer School, 'The Miraculous (Dis)appearing Act of Sexuality: Mapping the Study of Sexuality in Europe 1960-2010,' Utrecht University, Netherlands, August 2011.
Finally, the newest addition to the special edition stream of the GJSS is the forthcoming July 2013 edition, by Maya Nitis, Marianna Szcygielska and Whitney Stark, entitled 'The Conditions of Praxis: Theory and Practice in Activism and Academia,' which emerges out of the 8th ATGENDER European Feminist Research Conference, hosted by the Gender Studies Department at CEU, Budapest, Hungary, May 2012.
