Hi,
> We run 802.1x offering wired eduroam, but only on designated ports in a few areas such as our library. It does not get very much use. Most students seem to much prefer using the wireless eduroam, even if their laptop is sitting 12 inches away from the wired eduroam port. Although this may be partly due to a lack of awareness of the existence of the service because it is not campus-wide like the wireless.
..there is also the general perception that 'eduroam is wireless' - probably
not helped with the eduroam logo having those 'wireless waves' patterns.
I know of several sites that have 802.1X on their student resnet ports - and
just take eduroam requests as they come - with own users going onto a local
network - or onto the setup/ban network as appropriate (I'm sure such sites
might talk more about this on the 802.1X mailing list :-) )
