Hi All
A brief note here about the launch of our mini-album Wrestling With Demons. The disc contains four songs specifically chosen to reflect the struggles and triumphs of people in recovery or working towards recovery. The disc was launched at Phoenix House, Glasgow, a therapeutic community in Scotland, using the residents as chorus. The disc was professionally recorded to provide a set of songs to be sung in therapeutic communities at morning and evening meetings and at recovery group meetings to open or close proceedings.

The Album – a mini-disc containing four tracks: In This House (Yates, 2010); Always Pick Him Up (Reed, 1927); Song For John (Yates, 2005); and Stand By Me (King, Leiber & Stoller, 1960). These songs were specifically chosen to reflect both the reality of recovery and the struggle to achieve it.
The Artists – Rory Yates (better known as “Rowdy Yates” in the recovery movement) started playing in rock bands in the mid-1960s: a career cut short by heroin addiction. He started playing again some years ago and has built a reputation for writing and performing songs about addiction and recovery. He has worked in the addiction field as a counsellor, trainer and researcher for over 40 years. Other artists on the album include: Eoin Coughlan (of Nomos); Elaine Cormican (of Liadan); Art O’Laoire (of Cartoon); and Cathal Clohessy (of Bosca Ceoil).
The Sponsors – Scottish Addiction Studies; Phoenix Futures; Lifeline Project; Amity Foundation; Ley Community; Action on Addiction; and Wired-In - all proceeds will go to the European Federation of Therapeutic Communities.
