The following is the text of an advertisement that should be live on jobs.ac.uk later today. Please draw it the attention of any relevant students.

School of Sport, Tourism & The Outdoors, University of Central Lancashire
in collaboration with The British Library

Reference Number: RS/12/04

Project Title:	Archiving the Games: collecting, storing and disseminating the London 2012 knowledge legacy

The School of School of Sport, Tourism & The Outdoors wishes to appoint to a full-time AHRC PhD studentship. The studentship is tenable for up to 3 years for a PhD (via MPhil route) [subject to satisfactory progress]. The studentship will cover the cost of tuition fees for UK/EU residents and provide a maintenance grant of £13,590 pa with a further allowance from The British Library of £1000 pa. EU applicants may apply but may only be eligible for tuition fee support. Due to funding restrictions this studentship will not be open to international applicants. The successful applicant will start on 1 October 2012.

Please note that a postgraduate qualification (diploma or masters degree) in librarianship, information science, record and archive studies and/or museum studies is an essential requirement for consideration for this studentship.

The project is a full-time three-year funded Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) Collaborative Doctoral Award (CDA). The research degree student appointed will investigate the challenges associated with managing and disseminating materials associated with large cultural and sporting events including the practical and cultural issues involved in the identification and cataloguing of content distributed across a number of different organisations. The study will seek to ensure a legacy for materials related to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games that are available at the British Library and other archive sources.

The student will spend approximately 12 months of their three-year studentship working with The British Library’s content and collections in London. The student will be provided with a dedicated workstation, including PC and relevant software, whilst at The British Library. The British Library will also provide a personalised training programme to supplement that provided for research degree students at UCLan.

Requests for an application pack (quoting the reference number RS12-04) should be directed to the Graduate Research School Office. Tel: 01772 895082 or email: [log in to unmask]

Informal enquiries about the project can be made to the principal supervisor Professor John Horne by emailing [log in to unmask]
