At the time of the Tender Buttons excerpt post, which I was reading at
the time, I was not aware Stein had been erased from US history as a
great American by the President's office, last month, and was still
considered degenerate art. Tender Buttons just happens to be a favorite
and admired poem... and technically such a difficult poem to write.
Some of this follows with this link, which defends Stein from.... well
what do you say? If the question is not asked.
How is an urban legend created? If a rumor or allegation is repeated
often enough in the media and blogosphere it ends up being perceived as
an established "fact." In Stein's case, the legend, in the words of
Stein detractor Dov Hikind, sounds like this:
It is a matter of fact that, among other things, Stein lobbied for a
Nobel Peace Prize for Adolph Hitler and was only allowed to remain in
France and continue collecting art because she aided the Vichy
government in its collaboration with the Nazis.
Every word in this statement is a distortion or even plain nonsense,
