I appreciate this has come from the managers but their attitude could be
construed as being age discriminatory. I hope they would not dream of saying
that Jo Bloggs can't do the job because they are African or Josephine Bloggs
can't do the job because she is a woman.
Age does not necessarily mean that the employer is unable to undertake the
requirements of their job. I know a lawyer and an OHN who are both past
retirement age and still working effectively. The advice they give would be
second to none.
I think I would be pointing out to them that they have a responsibility to
all staff to ensure their health, safety and welfare and that you are making
an assumption that the manager has recognised that these people may have
particular needs which thus far may have overlooked.
