Have you checked -

Solent Papers No.3 Fort Nelson and the Portsdown Forts

by Garry Mitchell

A4 format, card covers, 36 pages; with drawings, plans and colour
photographs explaining the construction, purpose and history of the
forts on Portsdown Hill. Including Forts Wallington, Nelson,
Southwick, Widley, and Purbrook with its outworks at Farlington and
Crookhorn.

ISBN 0 9513234 5 8 EAN 978-0-9513234-5-8

2010 edition : Price £4.00 Sterling

I've currently mislaid my copy but I'm pretty sure this has
information on how far each defence progressed. It is from a very good
series with plans of most of the works (I think they're available
through Amazon now).

Sorry I can't give you a direct answer until I locate my copy!
