** with apologies for cross-posting**
Dear colleagues,
A gentle reminder that the deadline of Wednesday 27th June is fast approaching for proposals to be submitted for the NoWAL conference Beyond the library: student transition and success, to be held on 4th September 2012 at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle.
The conference aims to capture and share good practice across the entire student journey, and we have secured an in principle agreement with Dr. Graham Walton, Editor of the New Review of Academic Librarianship (NRAL), that suitable conference contributions may be put forward for inclusion in a themed issue of NRAL in 2013. Our keynote speaker is Aaron Porter, Higher Education Consultant.
All we need before June 27th 2012 is a 250 word abstract for a paper, workshop or poster; the call and submission form, as well as more about the conference, can all be found on this NoWAL web page: http://www.nowal.ac.uk/training_and_development.php
(please scroll down to the section of the table marked "Conference: Beyond the library: student transition and success")
We look forward to receiving your proposals!
With best wishes,
The NoWAL Conference 2012 planning group
Nicola Siminson

Subject: Call for papers - NoWAL conference 4th Sep. 2012 "Beyond the Library - student transition and success"
** apologies for cross-posting **
Dear colleagues,
NoWAL, the North West Academic Libraries consortium, will once again be running a conference, to be held at the University of Cumbria on Tuesday 4th September 2012. The "Beyond the Library: Student Transition and Success" conference will address the issues around supporting and developing students across the entire student lifecycle (from pre-entry, to post qualification), and will position academic libraries as major forces in their institutions, demonstrating the value of our services to a sustainable model of higher education. The conference programme will provide a lively mix of presentations, workshops and networking opportunities; and with keynotes from Aaron Porter, former President of the NUS and now a higher education consultant, and Pam Houghton, Head of the Learning Development Unit at the University of Central Lancashire, the conference promises to provide a valuable opportunity for exchanging insights and experience around this important theme.
The conference will take place at the University of Cumbria's Learning Gateway in Carlisle: http://www.cumbria.ac.uk/StudentLife/VirtualTours/Home.aspx
On behalf of the he NoWAL Conference 2012 Planning Group, I would like to invite you to submit a proposal for the conference this September. We welcome submissions from librarians, student services professionals and related fields - so do please pass this call on to colleagues beyond your library. Submissions on developments, strategies, partnerships and approaches at any level and scale are invited, as are collaborative contributions from within one institution or across institutions.
You can find out more about the conference on this NoWAL web page: http://www.nowal.ac.uk/training_and_development.php (scroll down to the section of the table marked "Conference: Beyond the library: student transition and success"). There are links to the call and submission form on this page.
The conference themes are:
1. Projects that span the student journey at key transition points
2. Understanding our students and future students
3. Equipping students for life beyond University
4. Collaborations
5. Technology-led approaches
The deadline for receipt of submissions is Wednesday 27th June 2012; please email completed forms to: [log in to unmask]<mailto:[log in to unmask]>.
Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a panel, and submission outcomes will be notified by Friday 6th July 2012.
We look forward to receiving your proposals!
With best wishes,
The NoWAL Conference 2012 planning group
Nicola Siminson
