Information on this topic was obtained from seven institutions, some through this list and some from institutions we benchmark against which were contacted directly. Of these seven, five provide no service to non-academic staff and stated that they would deal with any requests on an ad-hoc basis. Of the five, one had run a service in the past but had discontinued it - due to low overall demand, combined with occasional intensive demand from senior staff, with short deadlines.
One institution reported providing a service to the central service departments in the university, as opposed to admin/support staff in general. Their service involves introducing staff in these areas to resources which might help them with their work. The respondent stated that providing this service had helped make some useful contacts in these areas.

Dear All,
Has anyone got any experience of providing a literature searching service directed at support or administrative staff – that is staff who are not academics or researchers?
Up until now, we have dealt with information requests from these staff on an ad-hoc basis, but we are considering how best our library service could offer something more structured. If anyone is providing a service like this to their institution's support/administrative staff, we’d be very pleased to hear something about it: what you offer, how, and who does it?
