The office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) seeks a candidate to work on its Refugee Integration Capacity Project as
Research Project Coordinator (Consultant)
In Brussels, Belgium
Contract period: Part-time during a 10 months period (from July or August 2012 to
31 May 2013).
Remuneration Package: A competitive salary will be offered, in line with the UN
consultancy scales, commensurate with market rates and the qualifications and
experience of the selected candidate.
Tasks: The incumbent, reporting to the UNHCR Project Manager and working closely with consultants in four EU Member States (Austria, Sweden, France and Ireland) will perform the following duties:
- Oversee and guide the production of four national research reports of around 70 pages.
- Undertake research and develop a methodology, tools and related recommendations, for a model longitudinal refugee integration research or evaluation at national level in European countries. In addition, make recommendations regarding other good practices in evaluation of refugee integration. The target audience for these recommendations/methodologies/tools are governments, academic institutions and others engaging in evaluation, monitoring and research on refugee integration.
- Prepare a summary report of around 100 pages. The report will summarise the findings from the national reports and place them in a broader context of integration evaluation mechanisms and methodology. It will also describe the experiences of separate work which will be carried out by UNHCR in Central Europe using the Integration Evaluation Tool.
- Assist in the organization of a final conference for the presentation of the findings and the report. The conference will take place in Brussels and will target 50-80 participants.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Some travel to be expected to liaise with other consultants in countries covered by the same project.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Advanced university degree (preferably a PhD) in sociology, social science, law or other relevant degree.
Minimum 8 years of professional experience of which some is in the field of integration research.
Expertise required in research, drafting, interviewing and oral presentation.
The candidate must be able to review large datasets and to review and understand advanced statistical socio-economic data.
The candidate must have excellent English oral and drafting skills. Fluency in one or more of French/Dutch/German is highly desirable.
IT skills: Microsoft Office, Power Point, Internet.
